Sparky's journey with us began in December 2020. He was with his family for approx. 8 years and he had to be given up. Enter Animal Love Foundation who then contacted us to see if we could foster him and find his forever home. Once he arrived at the cafe, we fell in love with his smug smile and his gentle personality. We knew then, that we had found another resident for the Kitty Lounge.
Sparky didn't disappoint anyone who came to see him and the other residents. He always let you pet him and he would begin to purr for those who spent time with him.
As he became more familiar with the cafe, he got to know us pretty well! He would wait by the window when we arrived and would stand up and with both paws on the window he would paw the window in a bicycle fashion - saying to us 'hey I'm here!' 'See Me!'
It was the cutest thing ever.
Sparky enjoyed visitors all the time!
With the pandemic having these visitors didn't last long.
In April 2021, we noticed that Sparky was losing weight quite rapidly and the vet diagnosed kidney disease and thyroid disease.
He was put on medication and at first seemed to improve.
However, as fate would have it, Sparky took a turn for the worse.
We struggled with where he would be at ease, as he dearly loved the lounge and being able to curl up in his favorite space - the round cat tree with a soft bed on top!
While we were open, our volunteers would sit in the chair beside him and instinctively reach up to pet him and talk to him,
We wanted to keep him close by us as well, to help him eat and make sure he wasnt in any pain.
In the middle of May, and in the midst of yet another lockdown, Sparky came home with us.
Many discussions and long chats with our vet, and she said to us that we could do more tests to see what was going on, but in her opinion, they were only tests. These tests were not going to make him better.
Monday May 3, 2021 and Sparky let us know it was time for him to go. He put his head down and we took him to the vet.
Sparky left us the same way he came to us. A gentle and caring soul. He crossed the Rainbow bridge where he was greeted by fellow resident Tippy.
Watching over the residents and us, they are both never far from our memories.
"There's a time that I remember, when I did not know no pain
When I believed in forever, and everything would stay the same
Now my heart feels like December when somebody say your name
'Cause I can't reach out to call you, but I know I will one day, yeah"
